Is silver safe?

Absolutely! Silver has been used for centuries for everything from silver-lined goblets in the Old Testament to Crede’s prophylaxis silver nitrate drops, which are put in babies’ eyes when they are born to help prevent bacterial inflammation. It’s less toxic then table salt and less irritating then talcum powder.

 

Does it kill bacteria?

No, actually, SANIGUARD® antimicrobial product protection disrupts the cellular processes of existing bacteria to inhibit their continued growth. Bacteria can double in numbers every 20 minutes. Our SANIGUARD® treatment stops this cycle with a three pronged attack on bacteria:

  • It attacks the cell wall and alters the cell’s metabolism.
  • It starves the bacteria, which can’t feed on the silver.
  • It stops the reproductive cycle, so bacteria can’t continue to multiply

 

How is it applied?

In short, we take silver, uniquely blended in an epoxy powder coating, and apply it on our products. It actually acts as an extra layer of product protection over our ASTM decorative metal finishes.

 

How durable are SANIGUARD® coatings?

SANIGUARD® antimicrobial product protection is a coating on top of the ASTM decorative metal finishes. This extra protective coating has passed many performance tests, including ASTM Standards for hardness and abrasion, salt spray and bleach. With proper care and cleaning, the SANIGUARD® coating is guaranteed to remain effective at inhibiting bacterial growth for 15 years.

 

Can I get more technical information on SANIGUARD® brand products?

Over one million dollars in testing has been conducted at independent third party laboratories to substantiate the effectiveness of SANIGUARD® treated products.
